Quick Tip To Sew Opening of a Decorative Pillow...

If you sew, then most likely you've made a decorative pillow. It's an easy project...sew two squares of fabric right sides together, leave an opening to turn right side out, then sew the opening closed.

Although sewing the pillow is easy, getting the opening to cooperate so you can sew it closed is another thing. Today, I thought I would share a quick tip for sewing that pesky opening of a pillow.

This is a picture of the sewn pillow...I know, looks like nothing, but it gets better.

Here's the opening for turning right side out and for stuffing in the pillow.

Now for the tip...along the whole edge of the opening, fold back your seam allowance and iron it open on one side.

Here's one side ironed open.

Now flip it over and do the same thing.

Both edges are folded back.

Now you can turn it right side out.

See the seams all neatly ironed and ready for you to sew. No fussing trying to fold over the seam allowance and pin it at the same time.

It pins easily and now you are ready to hand or machine stitch this closed.

If you want to hand sew the opening closed...click HERE for a tutorial on how to sew an invisible stitch.

Happy Sewing,
~Karen~
